SAP server updated to SAMP 0.3d
by Walther, published: 12/1/2011
SOMEWHERE IN THE UK - San Andreas Pilots's server was swiftly updated to the new San Andreas: Multiplayer version upon its release. Attempts to connect to SAP server using the old SAMP 0.3c client will end in a failure, so there is no way avoiding the update if you wish to stay in the air. In connection to this event, [SAP]Sgt - the current scripter of SAP server - has released a statement in which he suggested that some updates that make use of the new features introduced in the latest version of SAMP are on the way:
I hope we will have a few nice updates comming with the new features. Have fun playing.

Barry Isles welcome tourists with a new look
by Walther, published: 12/4/2011
BARRY ISLES - It appears that the Irish colony located to the east of San Andreas has made a huge effort in order to reinforce their reputation as the best overseas tourist spot. Costly investments were made in order to improve the environment, and to boost local economy. In the capital island, which boasts the only casino east of San Andreas, the construction of docks has been completed, which will allow to ship in food and other supplies without overloading the New Dublin Airport, where the freed up capacity will be used to bring in more tourists.
The local population gave mixed response when asked whether they approve of changes. While they are happy about the creation of new jobs, many expressed concern about the environmental impact of increased docks and airport usage. Also, it is feared that the increased tourist numbers will destroy the Irish cultural image that took so long to create. The local government says it will do everything in its powers to help the population adapt to changes.
Meanwhile, our reporter made a photo report covering the new look of Barry Isles. If you wish to use these photos, please contact the manager of our website.

SAPi Weather Advisory
by Migs, published 12/8/2011
SAN ANDREAS PILOTS' ISLAND - As December arrived in San Andreas, a snowstorm from the northwest area of San Andreas began moving eastward and remained stationary near San Andreas Pilots' island, causing a major change in weather. This yearly snowstorm resulted in several feet of snow falling to the island and temperatures dropping from the usual 20-25 degrees Celsius to a freezing zero and below.
The snowstorm also caused the visibility to lower to a few meters. Also, minor damage was reported, including the Beagles belonging to airBanana being buried under several feet of snow.
The cold weather is expected to stay until early to mid-January when the snowstorms are expected to end.

San Andreas Pilots' Island ranked as the top Christmas destination
by Walther, published: 12/10/2011
SAN ANDREAS PILOTS' ISLAND - Having been devastated by the snowstorm and recent developments at Barry Isles, the people of San Andreas Pilots' island decided to make use of their problems, turning them into advantages. On short notice, they ordered pine trees to be shipped from Canada, installed some very spectacular streetlights, and even shoveled the snow off the numerous taxiways and the runway. ILS system has been checked thoroughly, hence every plane can be landed safely in this continuous snowstorm. All this effort resulted in San Andreas Tourism Board giving SAPI the highest rank in Christmas destination category.
With a gorgeous Christmas tree adorning the SAP Council Building, the island looks just the right place to spend your Christmas holiday. Unless you run into the angry beachside bar owner who is out of business due to freezing weather!

Santa Claus spotted!
by Walther, published: 12/10/2011
SAN FIERRO - Santa Claus and his elf were spotted in several places yesterday, certainly in progress of delivering presents. We could not interview them, as they started running away as soon as they saw us approaching. Our reporters managed to get them photographed, though. Surprisingly enough, they did not vanish from the pictures. Are they prentenders?

[SAP]Yamil leaves the server
by Walther, published: 12/14/2011
Despite significant changes of server having been mentioned by SAP Council members in many parts of SAP forums, [SAP]Yamil, who had been promoted to the clan in early 2009, decided to leave the server, citing behaviour of certain administrators, emptiness of the server and some personal grievances as the main reasons for this move (the original post can be read here).
However, Yamil mentioned that, hopefully, he may come in contact with other players in the future, hence, we may expect him to return to the server after some time.

SAAA - Re-organised and looking for new instructors
by John, published: 12/15/2011
BLUEBERRY - Major changes were announced by the CEO of airBanana's subsidary - San Andreas Aviation Academy - an organisation providing pilot training and organising cross-country flying events. The old training system has been changed, hence from now on, students will be offered to take private lessons with individual instructors. Every student will also have his/her own testing profile where all information on student progress will be saved.
SAAA has also announced the SAAA Instructor Contest. Due to changes in SAAA, they need, as they said, ''quite a few'' new instructors. Everyone who has good flying skills and has basic knowledge about aviation has a chance to become one. More information can be found in SAAA News section.

Christmas radio takes over San Andreas airtime
by Walther, published 12/20/2011
With one week left until Christmas, the almighty SAP Bot received a CD player and a collection of cheeeful songs. Feeling the need to share his newfound joy with everyone, he secretly called the hackers of SAP Scripting Department, who helped him accomplish his goal.
In a special stealth helicopter, he was flown to the Big Ear, from where, using undisclosed techniques, the hackers managed to start the broadcast of Christmas songs. At the moment, SAP Bot resides in his place at SAP Museum (on Ontario Island), pretending that he has nothing to do with these developments. However, our trusted informers have confirmed that he keeps a hidden remote control under his seat, switching the songs as he wishes.

Nodroz on his way to SAP status
by Egert, published 12/22/2011
Following the departures of two SAP clan members, it is always great news to see someone pass all the tests. Nodroz, the CEO of BoNo airlines, only needs to pass the interview with the current SAP Spokesman and another SAP Council member in order to have the right to bear the [SAP] tag and all the powers associated with it. Being a player of perfect reputation, he should find no trouble in passing this rather formal obstacle. At the moment, Nodroz is glad that thanks to his achievement BoNo Airlines is one step closer to being a Class C airline - he needs to have at least 2 SAP members in it.

Snowstorm continues - Christmas is all over San Andreas!
by Migs, published: 12/25/2011
San Andreas has tuned in to Christmas mood with the start of SAP Christmas Edition.
The massive snowstorm that keeps SAPI frozen, has moved north, resulting in snow falling all over San Andreas. To cope with the cold weather, all clothing stores in the state started giving out Christmas hats. The SAP Bot's Christmas broadcast on San Andreas airwaves, was fixed to provide a better experience in listening the songs, while SAP Bot himself got his well deserved holiday and has left Santa Claus running the place in a genuine Christmas spirit!
In the South, SAPi has taken steps to secure its top spot as Christmas destination - tourists will get more goodies besides the snow and hats. They will have the chance to use the RC vehicles that SAP Council placed there as a part of their yearly gifts to all pilots.
Be aware though - a warning was issued to all parts of San Andreas stating that everyone should be careful of the snow for it will leave the ground slippery (and your driveway not so drivable).

SANA Revisits the airBanana Flight 032
by Migs & Walther, published 12/26/2011
airBanana Flight AB032 was a scheduled airline flight from Ontario Intl. to Rockshore Regional involving Shamal aircraft that was shot down by a rogue pilot of San Andreas Air Force on December 19, 2010, leaving all 8 people onboard dead, including 6 passengers and 2 crew members. It was the second deadliest crash involving airline aircraft in San Andreas history, following the Sky4You crash on approach to SFAP on 16th June 2009, where 12 people perished.
Background information
The aircraft involved was one of two Shamals acquired when the now-defunct FlySA went into bankruptcy administration. Following the purchase, the plane had been re-registered as AB-JET. Flight 032 was a return flight from Ontario International Airport. Although the plane suffered from an aileron malfunction on outbound flight, the technicians were able to complete repairs and depart as scheduled. After taking off from Ontario Intl. runway 27, the crew switched to Las Venturas Airport beacon, and proceeded to gain altitude.
Plane shootdown
Moments after the airBanana aircraft took off, a Hydra belonging to San Andreas Air Force took off from Ontario International Airport and intercepted the passenger jet. The pilot of the fighter aircraft proceeded to fire four short-range missiles which damaged the engines and control surfaces of airBanana Shamal, rendering the plane unflightworthy. After attempting an emergency water landing, the crew tried to bail out from the airliner but failed to do so before the plane crashed into the ocean.
Post-shootdown
Immediately after the catastrophe, airBanana began a search and rescue operation. Although no survivors were to be saved, the plane was found in a surprisingly good condition, which allowed its recovery, repairs, and return to service to be completed within one week.
Due to AWACS being out of operation on that day, it was impossible to quickly track down the rogue fighter jet. We have received no information on whether an internal investigation was launched by SAP Military, Civil or any other Departments of then Higher Command. It is extremely likely that the pilot was discharged from the San Andreas Air Force and serves a triple life-sentence in a Supermax San Andreas prison, the whereabouts of which are unknown. Motives for shooting down the airliner were never revealed.
One year after the crash
In contrast to the infamous Sky4You crash, the airBanana Flight 032 did not have such a bad effect on the airline's reputation. The customers showed their solidarity with the fast-growing company, hence ticket sales remained steady. In fact, airBanana went on to become the market leader, overtaking JMX Travel SA and the now-defunct HKB Airways in terms of passengers carried. It is expected, that the 1000th passenger will be carried within the next few months.

Mainland free from snowstorms
by Egert, published:12/30/2011
The snowstorm that has been going on for days, has finally ended, and the people of San Andreas are very glad to hear that. The snowstorm has moved south, still raging over SAPi. Many crashes have been reported already and, because of the popularity of that island, the planes keep coming in, which creates a big chance of more collisions and crashes ocurring. People are worried about the consequences of the snowstorm: planes remaining stuck in snowpiles, and the rise of water level after the snow melts.

It looks like another year has passed, and while it was as short as the other two preceding it (can't say the same about 2012, though), a lot of things have happened. We all do remember the 5th SAP Birthday, and the big changes in command structure. Quite a few of us were mercilessly mowed down by the mysterious and invincible [TDH]Tom. And quite many got mentioned on the pages of your not-so-old but kind-of-faithful news website. Yet some things have become so familiar, that it is easy to start thinking that they have always been here! So, with the help of our records, let us refresh your memories...
